Night Market Update

Last night’s storm was extreme—you’ve likely seen the photos of downed trees across the city—and the site of The Stop’s Night Market sustained significant damage during the windstorm. To ensure the safety of our guests and vendors, we made the difficult but necessary decision to evacuate the site and cancel the event.

The Stop’s Night Market impacts so many people. From our food and drink vendors who donate their time and products, to our tireless teams of volunteers, to the 2,000+ guests who join us each year in support of healthy, well-fed communities, this fundraising event means so much to so many. The decision to cancel was a heartbreaking one, but we truly had no choice.

Night Market is solely organized by The Stop Community Food Centre, a registered charity that provides our neighbours with access to healthy food in ways that maintain dignity, build health and community, and challenge inequality. Due to the up-front costs we incur by hosting the event—not to mention the logistical challenges associated with bringing together 30+ restaurants in one place—we are sadly unable to reschedule.

Night Market is also a significant fundraiser for The Stop.

Only 10% of our work is funded by stable government sources, and so we must make up the rest through donations, grants, and special events. The funds we raise from Night Market allow us to run our community kitchens, healthy food bank, and drop-in meals through the summer months. These programs provide meaningful opportunities for people from across neighbourhoods, cultures, and economic demographics to work side-by-side, nourishing each other and the city of Toronto as a whole.

And so we ask that if you are able, you choose to donate your ticket purchase in lieu of a refund. Charitable receipts will be issued for all who choose this option.

If you are unable to donate your ticket purchase, you may email Ardiana at ardi@thestop.org. Please include the name and email address that the ticket(s) was purchased under.

We have one more big ask of you:
Our restaurants and beverage vendors have been planning their Night Market menus for months, and we’re so sorry that you weren’t able to taste the delicious items that they had to offer. Many of these businesses have supported The Stop’s work for years, and several have already donated the food they’d prepared for Night Market to our community programs. When planning your next night out or catered event, we ask that you choose to support these community-minded companies:
